Governor Makes Pitch For 72 Hour Hold

Governor Charlie Baker  is urging the state legislature to approve a wide ranging bill  addressing opioid abuse.

A key component of the bill would allow  doctors the power to place involuntary 72 hour psychiatric holds on drug  users.

Baker  and Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders testified  before a joint legislative committee on the bill yesterday.

Sudders  says involuntary treatment should be a last resort, but can save lives  if used appropriately.
