Police Seek Second Suspect In Weekend Shootout

A Springfield police officer is out of the hospital after suffering gunshot wounds overnight Sunday.

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood says Edwin Irizarry was one of two officers working a security detail at the Aquarius nightclub when they were alerted to a disturbance across the street.

Clapprood said the officers wound up in the middle of a gunfight and that Irizarry was hit twice in the left arm.

Kenneth Jose Hernandez of Springfield is facing charges including assault with intent to murder.

His arraignment is expected Tuesday.
