Ortiz In Boston Hospital For Treatment And Recovery

Former Major League superstar David Ortiz's assistant says the longtime Red Sox slugger's shooting was the act of hitmen.

Leo Lopez told reporters in Santo Domingo on Monday the shooting Sunday night was not a robbery and was "no doubt" an act of hitmen.

Ortiz is now being treated at a hospital in Boston.

The 43-year-old ten-time All-Star was flown to Boston Monday afternoon on a plane provided by the Red Sox.

Ortiz underwent surgery after the shooting and his gall bladder and part of his intestine were removed.

It is unclear what Lopez is basing that on.

Police are still investigating.
