Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and the City Council are again clashing over a civilian advisory board for the police department.
Sarno said on Tuesday that he is moving forward with an executive order to expand the board membership and grant it power to summon witnesses for disciplinary hearings. Some council members have called for the return of a civilian police commission following numerous instances of alleged police misconduct, but Sarno has gone against that.
The council voted on Monday 7-to-5 to hold the proposal to expand the civilian board and grant it the subpoena powers for further review.
