Bringing Back One Child-One Family At A Time

The President of Square One, Joan Kagan says she has spent many sleepless nights since the pandemic began wondering about the safety of the children that they have served this year.

In a letter to the community Kagan says that while she wonders if the children she sees everyday are learning and being nurtured, she also is concerned about a reported 54 percent decline in reported cases of child abuse.

Kagan says that while they often provide emergency support, many children will need increased therapy to address a diverse number of traumas throughout the area.

Kagan says they are spending their days redesigning spaces so they will be ready to go when the governor approves.

She says they are also trying to find a way to feed kids that they normally wood who are unable to return because of new practices.

Kagan says they know things will be different, but she concludes that with a lot of help they will bring back one child and one family at a time.
