UCONN Pulls Plug On Football Season Due To Pandemic

UConn has become the first FBS level team to cancel its 2020 football season over Covid19 concerns.

Athletic Director Dave Benedict says that the safety challenges were just too tough to overcome.

The cancellation of the season effects UMass who was going to open up its football season in East Hartford September 3rd.

In addition to safety concerns the team would also have to navigate the Connecticut Mandatory 14 day quarantine for people who travel to hot spot states.

Coach Randy Edsall says that he listened to the concerns of the student athletes and says that be fully believes the right decision was made.

The Coach says they will use the time to be ready to play the 2021 season.

Players will remain enrolled in classes and be expected to keep up their grades.

It is unclear whether Senior players will be able to come back.

The NCAA has not announced a universal plan to deal with those who lost the season and then graduated.
