Mask Mandate Now An Option In Springfield Schools

Mask-wearing is no-longer required in the Springfield School District starting today for the majority of the school district community.

There are exceptions, including visits to the school nurse's office and for anyone returning from a five-day quarantine for a positive coronavirus test.

It is also strongly-recommended that masks continue to be worn by students or staff who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 or for those who are immuno-compromised.

A statewide mask mandate for public schools went into effect last September and was dropped in February, but the requirement lasted in Springfield classrooms for an additional month.

Meantime, officials say they will continue to monitor the latest data to insure the schools are safe.
