The Springfield City Council will meet next Monday night for a hearing on the cityâs Court Square Urban Renewal Plan. The state programâs intent is to allow for easier development of dis-invested or underutilized areas of a particular community.Â
The Springfield plan will include 192 acres that cover the cityâs downtown; Lyman, Spring and Pearl Streets. Thatâs an area that was affected in 2012 by a gas explosion.Â
âThe significant scale of development, investment and opportunity that the Court Square Urban Renewal Plan has shaped over its history is remarkable. This Plan Amendment seeks to build on this impressive legacy by identifying new areas of the downtown for redevelopment and furthering adaptive reuse and infill development around anchor properties in the downtown,â said Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan.   Â
The plan will allow the city to identify areas of potential development.  Â
