Western Mass Lawmakers Try To Block Winter Rate Increases

State Lawmakers say the 21 percent rate increase proposed by Eversource is a bad look for the company.

A group of Western Mass Lawmakers say this is the worst time for Eversource to increase rates---at a time when there are record profits and people continue to try to emerge from a crushing pandemic.

But company officials say the increase does nothing for their profits.

They purchase electricity on the open market and that is the price that they pass along.

If Massachusetts regulators approve the increase- it would see bills for the average consumer go up about 40 bucks a month beginning the first of the year.
