Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is shedding light on a decision to suspend contract negotiations with the Springfield police officers' union.
The City of Springfield website shared redacted emails indicating an unnamed union official who is also a police detective acted inappropriately during a Community Police Hearing Board meeting last month.
Sarno said in a statement that he will not tolerate unprofessional behavior and that the incident led to the negotiation suspension.
More than a hundred off-duty officers staged an informal picket last week to call attention to an unfair labor practice that had been filed in response to the city's action.
The City Council says it will not get involved in the spat until after a contract comes before them to review.
