Several candidates are announcing campaigns to replace state Senator Stan Rosenberg, who resigned on Friday.
They are Northampton City Council President Ryan O'Donnell and Central Hampshire Veterans' Services director Steven Connor, who were previously running for a state representative seat.
One other candidate, Chelsea Kline, had previously filed to run against Rosenberg.
Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz said he spoke with Senate President Harriette Chandler to extend the nomination papers deadline, which was just before Rosenberg's resignation, but the request was declined.
