Springfield Police Commissioner John Barbieri is releasing a statement after multiple officers were accused of sex crimes last week.
Two officers, Joshua Figueroa and Derrick Gentry-Mitchell, were indicted for rape in Hampden Superior Court, while another officer, Daniel Cintron, was arrested for rape of a child on Thursday in Monson and arraigned in Springfield District Court the next day.
Barbieri said the behavior is not typical of the nearly five-hundred men and women who represent the SPD and says the department is exploring an early-warning system in patterns of behaviors to try and prevent these types of actions moving forward.
Yet another Springfield officer, Jonathan Hernandez, was arrested on Friday for violating a restraining order.
