(AP/WHYN News) -- The Boston Red Sox say there is nothing to worry about but they have placed their ace Chris Sale on the ten day disabled list.
Officials say they did so because of left shoulder inflammation. That means he will miss his scheduled start this week against the New York Yankees.
Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters the soreness is mild and Sale was ''adamant'' that he would only miss one start.
The move was retroactive to Saturday, meaning he could start again on Aug. 7, when Boston plays the Toronto Blue Jays.'
Sale is leading the majors in strikeouts and tops the AL with a 2.04 ERA.
The lefty is 5-0 in his last six starts and hasn't given up a run in his last three outings.Left-hander Brian Johnson will start Thursday's game against the Yankees in his place.
Brandon Workman has been called up from Pawtucket in order to fill the roster spot.
