Officials at Springfield's new rail car-manufacturing facility are expressing concern about a new federal transportation bill.
The bill, which is moving forward in Congress, would prevent Chinese-based rail car companies from getting financial assistance from the federal government for a year.
A statement released by Chinese company CRRC late yesterday indicates the passage of the legislation will significantly impact its ability to participate in any future Federal Transportation Authority-funded projects.
CRRC is producing new rail cars for public transit agencies in Boston, including the MBTA as well as Philadelphia and Los Angeles at the new facility in East Springfield.
