The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is rejecting a request from MGM Springfield to play animations on a sign facing highway traffic.
At a meeting in Boston on Tuesday, the commission voted to allow MGM to intermittently change images on its parking garage sign that faces Interstate 91 traffic, but not animations, citing concerns about public safety and distracted driving.
The commission agreed to reconsider the issue later this year.
MGM's new downtown Springfield casino is set to open on August 24th.
City officials say more than 100 thousand cars each day pass by the site.
