Today is primary election day in Massachusetts with most of the experts predicting a very light turnout.
Republican and Democratic primaries for Governor are being decided.
Democratic voters in the First Congressional District have the options of picking incumbent Richard Neal and Springfield attorney Tahira Amatul-Wadud. There is no Republican running in First District in the November general election.
There are Republicans running in the Second Congressional District - Tracy Lovvorn and Kevin Powers - who are looking to go up against Democratic incumbent Jim McGovern in November.
There are also a number of primary races for seats in the state legislature today.
The Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester state Senate district has been vacant since former Senate president Stan Rosenberg resigned in May. Democrat Chelsea Kline is the only one on the ballot, but write-in campaigns are being run by Joe Comerford, Ryan O'Donnell and Steven Connor, with no GOP candidate for the November election.
There are six other primary races in Western Massachusetts for Senate and House positions.
Today is a historic day for Amherst voters.
They are voting for town council candidates for the first time.
Thirty-three candidates are on the primary ballot, twenty-six of which will advance to the November election to fill ten seats.
Amherst recently changed its charter to switch from a town meeting format to an active council.
