Governor Charlie Baker is officially the Republican nominee for reelection. Baker defeated a primary challenge from Springfield pastor Scott Lively yesterday. Baker took about two-thirds of the vote.
On the Democratic side, former state budget chief Jay Gonzalez defeated Bob Massie to win the party primary.
Baker and Gonzalez will now square off in the general election in November.
First District Congressman Richard Neal wins re-election to congress. He took 70 percent of the vote against Tahirah Amatul-Wadud. He faces no Republican Challenger in November.
Second District Congressman Jim McGovern had no opposition. He will take on Republican Tracy Lavvorn in November.
Cheryl Coakley Rivera took 97 per cent of the vote to become the Democratic Nominee for Register of Deeds in Hampden County.
State Senator James Welch of West Springfield won his primary challenge against Amaad Rivera.
State Rep Jose Tosado won his primary challenge against Mark Kenyon.
State Rep Carlos Gonzales had to run on stickers because he failed to file on time. He was an easy winner as well.
There was pretty light turnout everywhere. In Springfield, officials for example reporting about 13% participation.
