Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy says the confirmation hearing for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was a sham.
Leahy spoke during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination yesterday.
Leahy says this is the most incomplete and the least transparent vetting for a Supreme Court nominee he has ever seen.
Senators will continue questioning the nominee in a process that could go through the rest of the week.
Senator Liz Warren, who is not a member of the Judiciary Committee, but did attend the first day of the hearing says that she is deeply concerned since the nominee comes from a list of candidates provided by "right wing extremists."
Kavanaugh was named to replace the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the retirement of Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.
