People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is sending a new letter calling for the Big E to stop using animals in exhibits.
The message comes after images purportedly showed a sick elephant and a camel being forced to stand up.
PETA claims the petting zoo company, R.W. Commerford and Sons, has a lengthy rap sheet of animal welfare violations.
Commerford and the Big E have denied that the animals being used are in any distress.
Meantime, Springfield State Representative Angelo Puppolo says he will re-file a measure that so far has not made it out of committee, that would ban so-called "travelling circuses" from the state.
