Sarno: Council Stands With Illegal Immigrants

The Springfield City Council went  against the mayor on Monday on an immigration-themed ordinance.

By a  10-to-1 vote, the council issued an override of Mayor Domenic Sarno's  veto against its new law that prevents city authorities from inquiring  about an immigrant's legal status.

Sarno claimed the ordinance will  turn Springfield into a sanctuary city and will threaten federal  funding.

Supporters say it will make immigrants feel safer.

City Councilor Jesse Ledderman says the council has  a lot of work to do to instruct people what the ordinance means and more importantly what it doesn't mean.

Mayor Dom Sarno says that the council has sided with illegal immigration at the expense of the taxpayer.
