A woman's involuntary manslaughter conviction is being upheld by the Massachusetts Supreme Court.
A lower court judge's ruling was affirmed for the woman who encouraged her boyfriend to kill himself.
Michelle Carter is found to have caused Conrad Roy the third's death when she text him to get back in his truck that was filling with toxic gas.
The court has rejected the argument made by Carter's lawyers that the conviction violates her First Amendment right to free speech. Instead, the judge says she had a duty to call police or Roy's family.
It is unclear when Carter will be back in court.
