Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni is reviewing the actions of the Springfield Police Department after published video appears to show a man being assaulted by an officer.
MassLive published the surveillance footage this week in a story about the arrest of Jerry Bellamy, who was seen having his throat grabbed by the officer after he went to the SPD to file a complaint about a parking ticket.
He was then led outside and eventually arrested for assault and battery of an officer and resisting arrest.
Gulluni in a statement to WHYN News says the case against Bellamy was thrown out for lack of credibility from the officer's narrative.
"The initial assessment made to dismiss the complaint was the right thing to do. However, newly acquired evidence that has come to my attention will be reviewed by my office for criminal behavior, which I believe is required in the interests of justice."
No timetable for the probe has been announced.
