Springfield native Ruth Carter has her first Oscar.
Carter won for Best Costume Design for the movie Black Panther at Sunday's Academy Awards.
She thanked director Spike Lee, with whom she's worked extensively over their careers, and her 97-year-old mother watching from Massachusetts, among others.
It was her third nomination and her first Oscar win.
