State Representative John Velis says he will seek state Senator Donald Humason's seat if he is elected mayor of Westfield.
Humason has made plans to run for that office public.
Velis, who represents Westfield, released a statement yesterday afternoon announcing his follow-up intentions.
Velis, a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, has been deployed twice to Afghanistan.
The current mayor Brian Sullivan will not run for re-election when his current term ends.
