Springfield officials are informing the public that the city's drinking water is safe after a warning was issued about high levels of a contaminant.
The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission said last week that the water system had a level of halo acetic acid that exceeds regulatory limits during testing last month and back in December also.
Executive Director Josh Schimmel says the commission says it's not a public health emergency, and that the public notification is for the sake of transparency and in accordance with state law.
A Springfield City Council committee held a hearing to discuss the matter on Tuesday.
