Lawmakers Look To Protect Animals

The state legislature is considering a bill that would make it illegal to sell animals from so called puppy mills in Massachusetts.

The bill would require that pet shops only sell animals that come from shelters and rescue centers.

The industry group that represents pet shops says they are against animal cruelty, but the bill misses the mark.

The group says the bill makes false assumptions about where pet shops get animals, and it would put many out of business.

State Senator Michael Moore says that lawmakers did not do anything to protect animals last year and is hoping that it will change for this session.\
