Red Sox First Basemen Bill Bucker Dies At 69

Bill Buckner, a star hitter who became known for making one of the most infamous plays in major league history, died

Monday. He was 69.

He died after a long battle with Lewy body dementia, Buckner's family said in a statement. The disease causes Alzheimer's-like symptoms along with movement and other problems.

Buckner was an all star who won a National League batting title and had more than 27 hundred hits during his 22 year career.

It was however the ground ball that Mookie Wilson hit that he booted that put Buckner in the spotlight. He was well respected after the incident after he answered all reporters questions after the incident.

Buckner leaves a wife Jody and two daughters and a son.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
