Officer Kevin Ambrose Remembered

The city of Springfield is pausing today to remember Officer Kevin Ambrose's death. The officer was responding to a domestic call on that day when he was shot and killed by a suspect. The officer was credited with saving the life of the woman involved.

“We must never forget and always remember Officer Ambrose’s heroic efforts to save a young mother and her child. He made the ultimate sacrifice in order to secure their lives – this is what our police officers do day in and day out without any fanfare,” said Mayor Sarno.

“Out of respect to the Ambrose family’s wishes, there will be no formal event, but Acting Commissioner Clapprood and the Springfield Police Department will once again mark the anniversary with respectful protocol at our Memorial Monument that honors our police officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I ask those who are able, as I will do, to please stop by this Memorial Monument to pay their respects to a fallen hero.

May God rest Kevin’s soul and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and May God protect our men and women in blue.”

Acting Commissioner Clapprood stated, “This June 4th, marks the seventh anniversary of Kevin’s heroic sacrifice. This anniversary also corresponds with his badge number (#7), making this date even more poignant.

With the wishes of Officer Ambrose’s family, Tuesday will be commemorated by the placing of a marked cruiser with blue lights activated. There will be a moment of radio silence. Knowing Kevin as I did, he and his family are always in my thoughts, not just on June 4th, but I think about him all the time. Please keep Kevin and his family in your prayers. “
