A last-minute deal is allowing several Springfield businesses to keep their liquor licenses.
According to The Springfield Republican, tenants of the New England Farm Workers Council, including the Student Prince and the Fort restaurant, were in danger of not having their licenses for 2020 because the council owed about 356-thousand dollars in city taxes and Business Improvement District fees.
But, the report indicates the city License Commission approved a last-minute payment plan on Thursday.
The council president says there was a cash-flow problem stemming from the ongoing redevelopment of the Paramount Theater and Massasoit House Hotel, but that the historic property will soon be sold.
