Officials from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation earlier this week promised another look at ridership numbers for proposed east-west Massachusetts passenger rail service.
Regional planners from across Western Massachusetts told MassDOT officials at an advisory meeting in Springfield on Monday that the estimate could be over a half-million commuter trips annually.
Initial estimates from the state, which were much lower, were released earlier this month, along with a half-dozen service options and their costs.
There are several line items in the legislatures version of a budget draft but no one really knows if the carve outs will survive the budget process.
