Governor Hopes To Reopen Schools May 4th

Governor Baker is extending the shutdown of Massachusetts schools until at least May fourth because of coronavirus.

Massachusetts has recorded 18 hundred cases with 15 fatalities. Connecticut by comparison has 19 reported deaths.

The governor's order affects all public and private schools, along with all non-emergency child care centers.

The governor initially suspended schools on March 15th because of the pandemic, with that first order running through April sixth. Baker could further extend the shutdown if the situation does not improve.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission yesterday voted to extend the shutdown of MGM Springfield and the state's two other casinos.

The shutdown, initiated on March 15th due to the coronavirus, was extended to April 7th.

The original end date was set to be Sunday.
