The homeless population now have a triage facility that will allow officials to monitor the homeless population in the city during the Covid 19 Crisis. The Center is on the property of the Springfield Friends of the Homeless on Worthington Street.
As previously announced, the three tents will take care of the medical needs of the homeless.
Officials say that the general needs of the homeless person will be addressed in the first tent...a second tent would be for people who are being investigated for the virus and a third for those in quarantine.
The project is a joint venture between the city, Baystate Medical and Mercy Medical Centers.
Mayor Dom Sarno says that among his goals during the crisis is to get a more stable testing site that would be available for all. And, the Mayor says the city will be ready to address the needs of the entire region in a mobile hospital, similarly to one that is being built in Worcester.
The Springfield facility would be housed at the MassMutual Center. The Worcester facility will be ready to take patients there---by the end of the week.
