Springfield School Committee Votes To Delay School Year Start

The Springfield School Committee voted on Thursday night to start the school year two weeks late.

For first-through-twelfth grade, that means the school year will start September 15th; for kindergarten, September 21st, and for preschool, September 28th.

The state announced earlier this week school districts could delay the new year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Springfield Public Schools has not yet nailed down what the learning model will be.

Preliminary plans need to be in by the end of the day.

A more detailed and official plan needs to be in the hands of the state by the end of next week.
