The nation's unemployment lines were a little shorter last week.
The Labor Department reports this morning that 840-thousand Americans filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week, nine-thousand fewer than the previous week's revised total.
The biggest increases in initial claims were in Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, and Massachusetts.
The steepest declines were in Texas, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Oregon.
