Over 240 thousand Massachusetts utility customers lost electricity from severe storms that rolled through the state. The powerful storms yesterday toppled trees and utility wires with wind gusts of more than 70 miles per hour. Downed trees were reported in Boston, Cambridge, Milton and numerous other eastern Massachusetts communities. Damage has been caused to homes and vehicles, but no serious injuries have been reported.
Overnight, Eversource and National Grid reported a combined number of thirty-one-thousand customers still without power in Western Massachusetts from Wednesday's storms. Officials are investigating whether the storm activity caused a house fire in Holyoke. There was plenty of tree damage reported throughout the region.
As of about 8 this morning, EverSource reported about 14 thousand customers without any power. National Grid reporting outages in East Longmeadow as well. The company is also experiencing issues in the Berkshires.
