The cause of a stubborn fire that burned for days at the Bondi's Island landfill in Agawam is suspected to be accidental.
The fire was first spotted Thursday afternoon and quickly spread to multiple debris piles following strong winds.
Firefighters initially focused on making sure the fire did not spread to nearby properties.
The fire was under control and largely extinguished by last night.
Meantime, Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno says the landfill will remain closed to the general public through at least Wednesday while fire officials continue to investigate and work the scene.
