Fausey Elementary School is reporting three positive COVID-19 tests among the school community. According to the mayor's announcement Wednesday, two of the cases are staff members and one is a student. Now, the school is delaying their plan to reopen to in-person classes, sticking with strictly remote learning for the time being. Mayor Will Reichelt says they are working with the local health department to determine who the positive cases may have been in contact with before they make any decisions on returning to the classroom.
Meantime, as cases of COVID-19 continue to climb in Hampden and Hampshire counties, one local school district is returning to remote learning. Superintendent of Amherst Regional Public Schools Michael Morris said Wednesday that health metrics last week showed that they were able to return to in-person classes. Since that time, Morris says, the data has shifted, preventing them from moving forward with that plan. Starting Monday, October 26th, all students in the district will return to strictly remote classes until further notice.
