Governor Wants Return To Full Day In Person Learning

Governor Charlie Baker is calling for all elementary school students in Massachusetts to be in class five days a week by April.

The governor says 20-percent of the state's school districts are fully remote, depriving 400-thousand students of any classroom time. Baker says kids want and need to be in school learning alongside friends and classmates.

Education Commissioner Jeff Riley says parents can choose to keep kids home, but full time in-person learning needs to be an option.

Meantime, local officials say it should be the individual city or town that makes that kind of a decision.

The Teachers Union in the state says the governor is just trying to deflect from a failed vaccine rollout.
