A coalition of local, state and federal authorities combine forces to arrest two people and confiscate 13 guns and a boatload of ammunition. It all centered around a July 1st investigation. Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood says officers were serving a court warrant on a White Street home. While search the premisis for the suspect, the discovered guns and ammo. Police arresting Anas Nichols on the original warrant and later Shonique Nichols. Of the 13 guns, at least one were a ghost gun. More than 300 rounds of ammo were confiscated as well. In a separate operation, police arrested three more people on Saturday during a College Street vehicle stop. The trio facing a variety of weapons charges in that case. Police so far this year taking 109 guns off city streets.

The joint investigation with the ATF and our Narcotics Bureau also led to the numerous high capacity firearms and magazines being taken off the street and helped curb senseless violence,” said Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood..
“A year ago here in Massachusetts the issue of police reform was taken up by the state legislature. At the time of this conversation many of us in law enforcement and beyond cautioned to be mindful of the unintended consequences of the bill. Many of the concerns we raised went unheeded. Today, what you are seeing across America and the evidence shown during this news conference is demonstrable evidence of those unintended consequences,” said Springfield Police Captain Brian Keenan.
