School Lunch Program Expanded In Massachusetts

A new state law seeks to expand access to free lunches for children in Massachusetts schools.

The law signed by Governor Charlie Baker yesterday requires low income districts to offer all students free breakfast and lunch.

The measure also stops school employees from punishing students who have debt by identifying them publicly.

It would also ban schools from withholding lunch from students with debts in the program.

Baker says the new law is another way to make sure all children have access to healthy meals while at school.
