The People Have Spoken As Western Mass Elects New Mayors

Western Mass didn't turn out overall in large numbers for the 2021 Municipal Elections, but their voices were heard.

The third largest city in the state, Springfield did not have a mayoral race. They are on a four year cycle. But there were other Mayoral races that did make news. In Westfield, where there will be a new mayor. Incumbent Don Humason, the former Republican State Senator loses his reelection bid to retired police captain mike mccabe. Both Republicans---McCabe won by 800 votes.

In Holyoke, where there was no incumbent---Alex Morse had left office to become Town Administrator in Provincetown, the city is electing its first Latino to the office--Josh Garcia. It is a quick turnaround there. Since there is an incumbent mayor that wants to get back to his full time job---the take over there will be in two weeks.

And, in Northampton, where the longtime mayor David Narkeqiz is retiring from office...Gina Louise Sciarra won her first terem----its the first time in ten years---that city has seen a new mayor.

In other races, in Agawam, Bill Sapelli wins a second term as Mayor.

In Chicopee, its a second term for Mayor John Vieau.

Nicole LaChapelle wins re-election as Mayor in Easthampton.

William Reichelt wins re-election as Mayor of West Springfield.

While the Western Mass races garnered attention, so did the Mayor's race in Boston where Michelle Wu told supporters that there could be societal change while also filling pot holes and filling other needs.
