Sick Building? Attorneys Want New Courthouse To Solve Years Of Problems

A group of attorneys are suing to have the Hampden County Superior Courthouse, also known as the Roderick Ireland Courthouse, closed due to mold contamination.

Several county departments that work in the courthouse evacuated the building because of the issue last year.

The Massachusetts Trial Court has committed to remediating the mold, but Springfield elected officials have been calling for a new facility.

The group of lawyers announced at a press conference outside the courthouse on Monday that they had conducted testing which showed the mold inside was toxic and carcinogenic.

The attorneys say the only real solution is a new building. The state says it is willing to spend 100 million dollars to fix it.

The Governor is expected to weigh in on the issue after he returns from vacation.
