The Springfield Board of Police Commissioners is meeting for the first time on Monday.
The board was formed by Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno after a state court ruled in favor of the Springfield City Council's wish to make it happen with the goal of improving police department oversight.
The City Council wants to protect the city by making the Commission more transparent when it comes to hiring, firing and discipline.
Four of the five members were part of an existing community police hearing board.
The first meeting's agenda will be mostly organizational items.
