The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the parent company of Regal Cinemas is preparing to file for bankruptcy.
The company has theaters nationwide, including in downtown Springfield, inside the MGM casino complex.
Cineworld has reported that there is a gradual recovery in demand for tickets.
The entire industry is off by about 30 percent according to the latest estimates.
A national spokesman is not commenting. Neither are officials in Springfield.
