Nine Massachusetts counties are now listed as high risk for the spread of COVID.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the risk has spiked in the last week.
Only Berkshire, Essex, Hampden and Hampshire counties are at low risk.
The CDC reports the surge is from the new XBB variant which now accounts for 75-percent of all COVID cases in New England.
