A pedestrian has been struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Chicopee.
It happened at around 4 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Chicopee and Florence streets.
The victim was not immediately identified.
"Officers immediately began to render aid until the medics arrived and transported the male party to the hospital. The male party was treated at the hospital however, he succumbed to his injuries. The operator of the motor vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation," according to a police statement.
Chicopee has been dealing with a rash of fatal accidents in the last year which have prompted traffic safety reviews from city officials.
