Fredrick Pinney has been sentenced to 9 to 10 years in state prison.
Pinney was charged with fatally strangling TayClair Moore inside his home on Agnes Street in 2014.
A mistrial was declared two years later, and Pinney was eventually released for COVID-related reasons and remained out on bail, drawing protests from Moore's family.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said, “TayClair’s family was forced to endure so much on their journey for justice. Their grace, resiliency, and resolve inspired me and our trial team and presented all of us with a powerful experience of the impact of violent crime and loss. I hope this verdict brings a measure of justice to TayClair and her family. While we share in the family's disappointment over the sentence, ultimately, the defendant will finally be held accountable for his crime.”
The sentence was not what the family, nor the prosecutors were seeking. They were looking for the maximum sentence of 20 years to be be given Pinney.
