Massachusetts Based Chain Says Single Use Plastic Bags Ending Soon

Something to remember when you are headed to the store soon. At Stop & Shop, the Quincy based store chain says it is getting rid of single use plastic bags by the end of July.

In a statement last night the store chain said that paper bags will still be available but will carry with it a ten cent per bag charge.

Officials are encouraging shoppers to bring their own re-usable bags.

Massachusetts does not have a statewide law that governs such an issue, so it is up to the individual store for now. New York and Connecticut already have such a law on the books.

Rhode Island's is expected to start next year.
