The question of the viability of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System test, or MCAS has remained a topic of debate.
A proposed ballot question for 2024 would have successful completion of MCAS removed as a graduation requirement for high school students.
In September of this year, state Attorney General Andrea Campbell ruled that the question was legally reasonable.
Supporters largely agree that the test does require some changes, but say it is the best way to find where students need help for college and career achievement.
Opponents counter MCAS has no educational value, and that there are better ways to gauge student potential.
