Nine people are being assisted by the Red Cross after a weekend fire displaced them from their home.
Springfield Fire Department crews responded to a house fire on Carew Street Saturday afternoon and extinguished the blaze which left heavy damage on the second floor of the home.
There were no injuries, but the home was no longer safe for the residents.
According to the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad, the cause of the fire was the improper disposal of smoking material.
